How to Avoid a Treadmill Rut
Even starting out with the greatest drive, you could still be at risk for getting into a treadmill rut. Let’s be honest here; walking or running on your Sole or Smooth treadmill can eventually become boring, especially, if the elements prevent you from changing it up with an inside and outside routine. In fact, it can be hours and hours staring at the wall.
This may prove to be tedious and can drain your motivation to workout. But by changing up your treadmill workout, you can stay on track, and rediscover the joy of it.
Before you take a look at the tips below to help rejuvenate your treadmill fitness routine, remember that any workout is what you make it. You are the only one that can change it up and make it challenging and fun.
Tip #1
Surprise your body and take advantage of changing the incline. Do some hill repeats. Not only will your workout become instantly challenging, your heart will reap the benefits by gaining more cardiovascular strength. When you reach a plateau both literally and motivation-wise, this is a great way to overcome it.
Tip #2
Just like with the changes of incline, you can also change the pace. Our bodies take to routine well, and if you are always walking and/or running at the same speed, your body will get used to it and you won’t reach your health goals. The body reacts to change by revving up the metabolism which in turn will burn calories.
So, try out a pyramid scheme. First walk at 3.0 mph for a minute then pick up the speed at 3.2 mph for two minutes. Next, change it up to 3.4 mph for two minutes and so forth. Once you get to a point where you can’t manage the speed for that length of time, go back down to a slower speed. The pyramid scheme helps build endurance and pass the time.
Tip #3
As long as it is safe, and you feel comfortable doing it, you may want to consider doing another activity while on the treadmill. Reading, listening to music and watch TV can help pass the time as well. Also, having a workout partner can help pass the time and be a big motivator.
Whatever you do to change up your workout, remember it is only you who can make the best out of it. A treadmill can give you a very rewarding workout, and it is up to you to make it interesting. With a little time and a lot of creativity, a home treadmill can be a tool to improve your heart’s health.
