The Smooth 5.45 treadmill is one of Smooth Fitness’ best-selling models. It recently replaced the Smooth 5.25, which had long been regarded as one of the top folding treadmills for under $1,000. With the improvements made to the Smooth 5.45 it is likely to continue its predecessor’s success. The 5.45 is the same exact machine as the 5.25 with two noticeable improvements. The deck is longer now and the treadmill is more stable with the added weight from the bigger deck.

While these upgrades are nice and should provide a more enjoyable exercise experience, this model is still primarily built for walkers and light joggers so keep that in mind. There is a lot of competition among treadmills in the sub-$1,000 class but the Smooth 5.45 should continue to be one of the leaders in the pack.

The MSRP on the Smooth 5.45 is $1,497 but is regularly on sale for $980-$999 and you pay no sales tax unless you are a resident of Pennsylvania or Indiana.

Why You Should Avoid Buying a Cheap Treadmill

Are you looking to buy a cheap treadmill? Please don't! Find out how those inexpensive machines may cost you more in the long run.

If you’re considering investing in a treadmill for your health and fitness efforts, make sure you don’t buy a cheap treadmill just to save a few bucks. A treadmill should be a long-term investment and if you sacrifice for the cost now, you may regret it later.

The minimum price on a quality treadmill will run anywhere from $1,000 to $1,500. The Sole 5.45 treadmill is an example of a high-quality machine that you can get for around $1,000. Treadmills that you find in national retail stores for under $1,000 may be a bargain now, but may prove to be quite a headache for you down the road.

A quality machine may cost a little more upfront, but it will last longer, will have a better warranty, and will provide a better exercise experience. Inexpensive treadmills break down quickly, usually have warranties that expire shortly after you buy it – typically 90 days, and provide an awful workout.

Many people buy a treadmill so that they don’t have to pay more money to join a gym. That’s a great strategy if you buy a quality machine. Consider the alternative if you don’t. What if you buy a cheap treadmill with a 90 day warranty and it breaks down four months later and it’s too expensive to fix? Not only will you not be able to exercise, but you’ll be out more money because you’ll have to buy another treadmill or join the gym after all.

Treadmills take a lot of abuse as it is, but if you’re using the treadmill to jog or run, you’re putting even more stress on the machine. A quality treadmill is built to handle the impact of your workout over the long term. Cheap treadmills, like those you may find in Wal-Mart and other chain retail stores, are not built to withstand these demands and will break down very quickly if you do a lot of jogging and running on them.

Before you invest in a treadmill, think about how you will be using it. If you plan on walking primarily, then you can probably get by with as little as $1,000. However, if you jog or run you should expect to pay a minimum of $1,500 and as much as $2,500 if you run most of the time.

Don’t compromise your long-term fitness goals by skimping on the quality of the treadmill you buy today. You may have to pay a little more upfront for a higher quality machine, but you’ll actually save money in the long run with fewer repairs and headaches!

The treadmill desk is all the rage today. Imagine losing up to 40 pounds in a year by simply doing what most of us do everyday - working behind a computer! Dr. James Levine of the Mayo Clinic came up with the concept. Take a look at this video for these new-age workstations:

According to Dr. Levine’s research, the average person will burn 100-130 calories per hour walking less than 2mph. Assuming you worked 8 hours per day behind one of these walkstations, you’d burn roughly 800-940 calories. If you did that 5 days per week, you’d burn 4,000-4,700 calories – or roughly a little more than a pound of weight per week!

Details, a division of Steelcase, is a leading manufacturer of treadmill desks. Their units sell for roughly $4,000 and come in 36 laminate finishes with ergonomically curved desktops. They are set to run at very low speeds (1mph – normal walking pace) and have very quiet motors.

There may be more benefits than just weight loss too. According to workers that use these regularly, they are more alert and have more energy throughout the day. Increased productivity and reduced work stress are also benefits touted by proponents of these stations.

With all these potential health and work benefits, you may find your company offering you a treadmill desk sooner than later!

Imagine burning more body fat and reaching your weight loss goals faster by doing nothing more than changing when you do your treadmill workouts! With the same effort you are already putting into your workouts, you can improve your results by making this one simple change. Find out why that is.

What if I told you that you could actually burn more fat and reach your weight loss goals faster by doing nothing more than changing when you do your treadmill workouts? Simply doing your cardio first thing in the morning - right after you wake up and before you eat breakfast - you can burn more body fat with the same effort as you are already putting into your workouts.

Many people view weight loss as something that is extremely complicated and confusing, but the formula is pretty simple. To lose weight you have to burn more calories than you consume! As you’ll discover shortly, you’ll burn more body fat working out on your treadmill in the morning. There are a few reasons for this so let’s explore them.

First and foremost it is really easy to put off exercising. After a long day at the office the last thing you want to do is workout on your treadmill. It’s more tempting to just sit in front of the TV and relax. This is an easy trap to fall in to and we all do it. Unfortunately when this happens you end up missing several workouts throughout the course of a month and you don’t burn nearly as much body fat - obviously.

By doing your treadmill workout first thing in the morning you are making it a priority and are guaranteeing that it will get done. This strategy effectively prevents you from skipping any workouts. Morning exercise will also give you an energy boost that will last all day long. And if nothing else, it’s one less stressful thing you have to worry about getting done in the day.

The most important reason for exercising in the morning has to deal with the way your body works. When you eat, your blood glucose and glycogen levels increase and your body produces more insulin, all of which prevent stored body fat being used up during your workout. When you workout on the treadmill after you eat, you’ll mostly be burning off the calories you just consumed - not the calories that are already stored in your body.

When you wake up in the morning, you’re coming off a 5-8 hour fast and that’s assuming you eat something right before you go to bed, which most people don’t. Just as an aside note, you should not eat before going to bed if you are trying to lose weight.

Most people have their last meal or beverage a few hours before they go to bed so the fast is actually closer to 8-11 hours! Because you haven’t consumed any calories for several hours, your blood glucose, glycogen, and insulin levels are at their lowest. This means that a good cardio workout on your treadmill in the morning will force your body to burn your fat reserves in order to get the energy it needs to complete the workout.

By exercising first thing in the morning you are essentially putting in the same amount of effort, but getting a much bigger benefit! You will also find that a morning cardio session will increase your metabolism, which stays operating at this increased rate for several hours so you keep on burning fat effectively all day long.

Treadmills are an excellent way of burning off your excess body fat, but when you are putting all that effort in, why not get the maximum possible benefit from your hard work? If you want to burn more fat and reach your weight loss goals quicker, do your treadmill workout first thing in the morning!

These 6 muscle stretching tips will help improve flexibility and prevent injuries during your treadmill workouts.

If you’re going to be using a treadmill to burn fat and lose weight, then you’ll want to make sure that muscle stretching is part of your workout routine. Stretching your muscles is important because it prevents injuries that could impede your performance.

Ideally, you will stretch right before you begin to walk on your treadmill and again afterwards. Stretching before and after your treadmill workout will help with your flexibility and will also help prevent injury.

Here are some muscle stretching tips to help improve flexibility and prevent injuries:

1. Don’t hurry. Make your movements during stretching slow and precise for the best results. Don’t hurry or your stretches will be sloppy and you won’t get the full benefit of stretching.

2. Don’t stretch until it hurts. Some people push their muscles to the point of pain, thinking that it provides a better stretch but that is not the case. Stretch as far as you can and stop just before the point of pain and hold it for 20-30 seconds.

3. Don’t bounce during your stretches. You may have seen many athletes on TV bouncing while they stretched their muscles. This can actually cause injury rather than prevent it. Instead, stretch to a position that is comfortable for your body and hold it for about 20-30 seconds.

4. Breathe through your stretches. Some people hold their breath during their stretch routines, but when you practice deep breathing exercises, it helps you perform a deeper stretch for your muscles.

5. Warm up your muscles before you stretch. Some people believe that stretching is the warm-up. But you should walk or jog for a few minutes to get the blood flowing and then begin to stretch.

6. After your workout, you can stretch after you take a warm bath or shower. The hot water will help relax your muscles, and the after workout stretch will feel good.

When it comes to muscle stretching and treadmill workouts, the most important muscles to stretch are not always your leg muscles. Of course it is important to stretch your calf muscles, quadriceps, and hamstrings, but you also need to stretch her shoulders, abs, neck, and back. Believe it or not, walking on a treadmill provides a full body workout.

Don’t just bend over and hang, trying to touch your toes. Add some additional stretches, such as the splits, lunges, and calf stretches where you stand on the edge of a step or curb and drop your heels to the point right before it becomes uncomfortable.

Whenever you stretch, make your movements slow and precise for the best results. You want to keep some tension on the muscles to help them stretch, but never to the point where you’re in pain.

Ideally, you will stretch right before you begin to walk on your treadmill and again afterwards. Stretching before and after your treadmill workout will help with your flexibility and will also help prevent injury.

Here are some muscle stretching tips to help improve flexibility and prevent injuries:

1. Don't hurry. Make your movements during stretching slow and precise for the best results. Don't hurry or your stretches will be sloppy and you won't get the full benefit of stretching.

2. Don't stretch until it hurts. Some people push their muscles to the point of pain, thinking that it provides a better stretch but that is not the case. Stretch as far as you can and stop just before the point of pain and hold it for 20-30 seconds.

3. Don't bounce during your stretches.

Don't just bend over and hang, trying to touch your toes. Add some additional stretches, such as the splits, lunges, and calf stretches where you stand on the edge of a step or curb and drop your heels to the point right before it becomes uncomfortable.

Whenever you stretch, make your movements slow and precise for the best results. You want to keep some tension on the muscles to help them stretch, but never to the point where you're in pain.</itunes:summary>

Treadmill walking for weight loss can be done but it requires 3 key components to be successful. Find out what those 3 things are before you waste your time exercising!

Treadmill walking for weight loss is possible but there are a few important key pieces of information which will help you effectively reach your weight loss goals, and what’s more, keep the weight off permanently.

A lot of people out there may think that losing weight is complicated. The simple fact is that to lose weight all you need to do is burn more calories than you consume. It’s also true that an intense workout will burn more calories than a gentle workout. How simple is that!

So, now we know how easy weight loss can really be, what are these 3 important keys to treadmill walking for weight loss? They are: frequency, consistency, and intensity. Don’t worry, these really aren’t as complicated as they sound. Let me go through and explain each one.

Frequency
Do you use your treadmill maybe once or twice a week and then wonder why the pounds are not dropping off? Well to be perfectly frank, it requires a lot more effort than that to lose weight. Other treadmill exercises such as jogging or running may be effective if you do them a few times per week, but these exercises are more intense than walking. To lose weight by treadmill walking, you need to walk daily - at least 5 days per week. Anything less than this and you are likely to find it really hard to meet your weight loss goals. The great thing about walking on a treadmill is that it puts the least amount of stress on your body so you can do it everyday of the week if you want.

Consistency
As I mentioned earlier, treadmill walking is the least intense treadmill exercise, but this means that you really cannot afford to skip sessions or be inconsistent with the length of each session. If you are using treadmill walking as your main, or only exercise for weight loss, then it is important that you do a full workout each day, again, at least 5 days per week.

Intensity
If you are just starting out on your path to a slimmer body, then your treadmill workout routine shouldn’t be that intense. You need to ease yourself, and your body, into doing regular exercise. However, over time you will want to gradually increase the intensity of your treadmill walking in order to get the very best weight loss results. Remember how we learned that the more intense the workout, the more calories you burn? Well we want to burn as many calories as possible! Your treadmill workouts may be difficult to get through at first, but they will get easier as you become more fit.

In order to get the best results, I set myself a few guidelines to make sure I am always doing an intense session. I aim to walk on my treadmill for at least 45 minutes, and I also keep my heart rate at a minimum of 70% of my maximum heart rate. Now, these are just the “rules” that I set for myself because they give me the most effective results.

Depending on how fit you are, you may decide to walk for only 25 minutes, or to keep your heart rate much lower than I do. That is perfectly fine but remember that the less intense your workouts are, the longer (and harder) it will take to reach your weight loss goals.

Treadmill walking is definitely a great way to lose weight, but it has to be taken seriously. It takes frequency, consistency, and intensity. You have to exercise even when you feel like you would rather be doing something else. If you put in the time and the effort, however, over time you will reach your weight loss goals simply by treadmill walking!
